Mount Abu is the only hill station in Rajasthan, situated at the height of 1220meters(4003ft) above the sea level. It has been a popular retreat from the heat of Rajasthan and neighbouring Gujarat for centuries.
Mount Abu is also known for its Dilwara Temples and the annual summer festival that attracts thousands of tourists from all over the world.This is an important piligrimage center for the Jains since 11th century.
The mountain is also the home to many Hindu temples, including the Adhar Devi Temple (also known as Arbuda Devi Temple), carved out of solid rock. The best time to travel to Mount Abu is from Feb. to Jun and from Sep to Dec.

Dilwar Temples: The Jain Delwara temples of India are located about 2½ kilometres from Mount Abu, These temples built by Vastupal Tejpal between the 11th and 13th centuries AD are world famous for their stunning use of marble. These temples are dedicated to the revered Jain Tirthankaras and are superb examples of Indian medieval architecture.
The Gaumukh Temple of India is located 2kms away from mount abu and is considered to be site where sage Vashistha performed a big yajna (fire sacrifice). The shrine takes its name from a natural spring here, which flows through the mouth of a sculpted cow. The water of this spring is believed to have medicinal properties in it.
The Forest located between the Aravalli mountain range was declared as a wildlife sanctuary in 1980 and covers an area of approximately 288 sq kilometers. It is a sub tropical forest which has an abundance of various species of flora and fauna.The rare species found here are sambhar, common langur, wild boar, bear, pangolin, common mongoose, jungle cat, wolf, hyena, jackal, Indian fox, Indian hare, porcupine and hedgehog. These forests are also said to be the home to around 250 species of birds but the most special one is the grey jungle fowl which is unique to this area.
The most attracting place is the Nakki Lake, is an ancient and sacred lake. It is said that According to Hindu mythology the lake was dug out by the Gods by simply using their nails to gain shelter from the Demon Bashkali, however many such mythological stories exist leading to the creation of this lake. Nevertheless, the place is a great spot for picnic with friends and family alike. There are plenty of hotels, restaurants and eateries located near the lake which offer some great local food at really cheap prices.
Situated at a short distance away from the beautiful Nakki Lake, the Sunset Point offers a spectacular view of the sunset over the hills of Mount Abu. This picturesque site is one of the most favorite tourist spots. The Honeymoon Point located close by is another attraction of Mount Abu. Sunset Point is a good place to pick up trinkets and knick knacks. Carved marble statues, sandalwood idols, wooden toys and the likes can be seen all over the spot. Food stalls are a regular here.
Best Time to Visit Mount Abu:
Mount Abu experiences three seasons – summer, monsoon and winter. Other than January, any time of the year is a good time to visit this hill station.
